EmployabilityUK’s celebration events across the region continued recently with a visit to 495 (Sutton Coldfield) Sqn RAF Air Cadets.

The event marked the culmination of the Bring the Power programme, managed by EmployabilityUK in conjunction with Birmingham 2022.

Head of Programmes for EmployabilityUK, Krystyna Nosek, said: “It was fantastic to see such driven individuals. Air cadets are always such a delight to work with in any setting as they devote significant amounts of their free time to better themselves and prepare for the future.

We enjoyed a fantastic turnout at the event, with 26 cadets in attendance, and I’m thrilled with how the entire evening played out.”

Q&A With Josh Nathan

We were thrilled to be joined once again by Team GB gymnast Josh Nathan, who spoke to the cadets about what it takes to become a professional athlete.

The questions came thick and fast, with attendees observing the parallels between the effort required to become a medal-winner and a member of the Royal Air Force.

A Celebration of Some Fantastic Sessions

The Air Cadets enjoyed fantastic presentations from some of the charity’s finest volunteers, spanning:

Be Your Best You – Presented by Rani Gandhi and Adeeb Redman

The Be Your Best You module encourages young people to present themselves at their best in professional scenarios. Presenters discuss the importance of first impressions and how a little preparation can go a long way.

The A-Z of Super Confidence – Presented by Tim Bishop

The A-Z of Super Confidence was originally authored by speaker and long-time EmployabilityUK supporter Alan Matthews. The original book outlines 26 outstanding tips to boost confidence and self-belief and our workshops build on this to encourage those in attendance to become all they hoped to be and more.

Vision Boards – Presented by Kiran Channa

Our ever-popular vision board session discusses what they are as tools, and how they can make a huge difference to goal setting and achievements. Vision boards encourage people of any age to take the time to think about what they want and consider what it takes to get there.

Air Cadets Receive Their Certificates

No celebration would be complete without certification, and Josh was joined by longstanding EmployabilityUK volunteer Rani Gandhi as the air cadets were presented with their certificates.

Rani was also on hand throughout the evening to answer questions, having previously presented the Be Your Best You session.

We also had the opportunity to see what attendees had come up with for their vision boards, another key employability skills component that deals with setting and achieving goals.

Krys continued: “One of the best parts about sessions like this is that inspiration works both ways. I was beyond delighted to give the cadets the opportunity to speak with a high achiever such as Josh, and to hear their enthusiasm and the thought put into their questions really brings home the difference these sessions can make.”
